At the 2007
Latin America Aero & Defence event in Rio de Janeiro, Embraer leaked it had completed a market assessment and initial concept studies of a new military cargo aircraft: the
C-390. Furthermore, it stated "We expect to complete definition by the end of the year", and that if given a go-ahead "development would take four years from launch to first delivery in 2012 and require an investment of around U$500 million".
The best part was the following: the C-390 will have "good commonality" with the Embraer 190 to reduce risk and costs, using systems and technologies including the wing, empennage, fly-by-wire & flightdeck. Studies are under way on whether it will be metal or composite
What I cannot figure out is how they can go from the Embraer 190 RJ (see photo) to the proposed C-390 Cargo (see photo), and still call it a derivative?
Any comments?
Bye.
